How do I take a contact lens out?
Removing a soft lens is a two-finger pinch — never a scratch or a poke.
- Wash and dry hands thoroughly.
- Look upward and pull the lower eyelid down with your middle finger.
- Slide the lens onto the lower white of the eye with your index finger.
- Pinch the lens gently between your thumb and index finger and lift it away.
If the lens feels stuck or won't move, do not force it. Drop in 2–3 re-wetting drops, wait 30 seconds, then try again. A truly stuck lens almost always means it has dried out — moisture restores mobility within a minute.
For rigid gas-permeable lenses, the technique is different — your optician will demonstrate the lid-blink method.
