Can I order a different brand using my current prescription?
Switching brands changes more than the label — it changes the material, the water content, the modulus (stiffness), and sometimes the lens design (centre vs. peripheral thickness, edge profile). Even with identical optical numbers, fit may differ.
A safe switch usually means:
- Same SPH, CYL, AXIS, ADD as before.
- BC and DIA available in matching values.
- Same wear schedule (don't silently jump from monthly to daily mid-prescription).
Brand-to-brand swaps that often work without refitting:
- One-day silicone hydrogels (e.g. 1-Day Acuvue TruEye ↔ Dailies Total1 ↔ MyDay) — similar properties.
- Two-week silicone hydrogels (Acuvue Oasys ↔ Biofinity bi-weekly).
Switches that need an optician's input:
- Hydrogel to silicone hydrogel or vice versa.
- Standard to multifocal.
- Standard to toric (and back).
- Any change of more than 0.25 D in SPH or CYL.
