Can I wear contact lenses if I have never tried them before?
Almost everyone with healthy eyes can wear contact lenses. Roughly 9 in 10 spectacle wearers are clinically suitable, but a fitting consultation is non-negotiable for first-time users.
The optician will:
- Measure the curvature and diameter of your cornea — this gives BC and DIA, the lens-size parameters.
- Assess your tear film. Dry eyes are not a hard block, but they steer the choice toward high-moisture materials.
- Check for conditions that exclude lens wear, such as active conjunctivitis, severe blepharitis or corneal scars.
- Hand-teach insertion, removal, and the cleaning routine — this is the part you cannot learn from the internet alone.
After fitting, start with a short trial period (typically a 1-day disposable for one or two weeks) before committing to a long-term lens.
Once you have a valid prescription, browse our contact lens catalogue or use the Lens Picker to narrow down the right box.
